Oscillators
The DW-8000 (and EX-8000) has 16 single cycle waveforms (see figures 1-16) and responds to a C0-C7 MIDI range, but can also be shifted up or down an octave (i.e. 4' or 16' vs. 8'). While having more varied waveforms then oscillator based synths, the DW series still falls short of the sample based DSS-1 for versatility. Plus, the DSS-1 also has oscillator sync.
In the lower key range, the saw based waveforms (e.g. Saw, Pianos, Organ, Sax, Guitars, Basses) look like they have a DC offset, but do not behave like merely an offset, since the waveform is distorted (i.e. first half is exagerated, while end half is squashed, see figure 17-19). In contrast, the top octaves (e.g. 4' C6-C7) start looking more like a sine wave (see figure 25-26). The square wave swells (i.e. amplitude increases and then decreases) towards the low middle octaves (C0-C1 for 8'), while the Clavi, Organ and DigBass waveforms swell towards the high octaves (C6-C7 for 4').
